There’s not too many bargains in San Francisco anymore. But you can find a great deal at Cassava that makes you feel like family.

Located in the Sunset district of San Francisco, Cassava Restaurant is definitely not on the tourist path.
Over the years, their little neighborhood joint has swelled to serving over 200 people per night.
The restaurant has proven to be well loved by locals and managed to survive through the long Covid “winter.”
In fact, Covid allowed them to add more dining space than they had before.
As they added a parklet next to the curb and more tables and chairs outside, they also decided to expand the kitchen into the indoor dining room that was no longer being used due to the many restrictions on indoor dining in CA.
Still, they have outgrown the space and will be moving to Little Italy in 2022, which is right along the tourist path.
Hopefully, they will still continue their generous prix fixe meals that leave you stuffed, satisified, and still grateful that you live in San Francisco.
Menu
3 Course Prix-Fixe Dining
$45 per guest for dinner. Wine Pairing for $28 per guest.
The best part of their prix fixe menu is that the whole table doesn’t have to order the same thing. Each to their own to pick and choose the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd course, so that your entire table can enjoy what they like.
Starter
Burrata di Andria
burrata, watermleon, figs, house-baked shokupan toast
Divergent Vine, Unfiltered Chenin Blanc
I quite liked this amber wine from the Central Coast of CA. It had a pretty orange tinge and proved to match not just with the salad but with most of the meal.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken
brined and sous vide thigh meat, beets remoulade, pickled melon rinds, fermented peppers
Dokkaebier Hallerton Blanc IPA

Main
Wild Pan Seared Sea Bass
heirloom grits, olive tapenade, endive
Roald Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

Slow Braised Pork Shoulder
eggplant caponata, spinach-ricotta gnudi, roasted peaches, mustard port-jus

Dessert
Yuzu Posset
vanilla sable crumbles, berries, mint
Broadbent White Port
The white port was a beautiful bright orange in the glass, not terribly sweet, and a lovely, interesting choice to pair with the light dessert.

Local Cheese Plate
house shokupan toast, house compote, nuts, honey
Broadbent Madeira Malmsey 10 Year

The Last Drop
Cassava is like visiting a good friend or family member for dinner. The portions of food and the wine pours are extremely generous.
You won’t leave hungry or feeling like your wallet needs to go on a diet. Instead, your mind and body leave sated, comforted, and complete.
