Local restaurant food paired with wines at an event featuring Leslie Sbrocco of the television show, Check Please! Bay Area.

I collect menus and love wine pairing menus especially.
Years ago, Total Wine & More in San Jose, CA did a wine pairing menu featuring local Silicon Valley restaurants and Leslie Sbrocco, the host of Check Please! Bay Area.
Have you seen that show? Every market has their own version of the show.
I never used to watch it, until friends would say they wanted to try a restaurant just because it was featured on the show.
Three locals try out a restaurant, and they discuss their experiences – loved it, hated it, whether they would go back again.
In the middle of the show, Leslie would do a segment on wine, discussing Rieslings, Sauvignon Blanc, or another grape varietal. Since she is an accomplished wine expert, I really loved how she would give a bird’s eye overview of a wine.
However, recently I noticed they don’t have those segments anymore on the show. Were people not interested in them? Did viewers protest?
I’m not quite sure what quite happened those wine segments. While they may have died, this local wine pairing menu will live on forever in this blog post.

“Amber India serves classic and contemporary Indian cuisine” with multiple locations around the Bay Area.

Thinly sliced marinated beef, chicken and marinated beef short ribs

“Tobang is an easygoing eatery serving Korean BBQ and other classic dishes grilled right at the table. Korean BBQ refers to the Korean method of roasting many different kinds of meat on gas or charcoal grills.”
Mac & Cheese from Lillie Mae’s BBQ
Creamy baked mac & cheese seasoned with LillieMae’s secret seasoning, then layered with seven types of cheese
Louis Bouillet Brut Cremant de Bourgogne
“Longtime fans and new patrons alike will find their timeless favorites, including fried chicken and catfish, bbq ribs and hot links, sweet potato pie and more.”
Sambusak Veg & Falafel with Hummus from Dish ‘n Dash
Braided swiss chard, leeks, spinach, eggplant, feta, filo dough
Falafel and pita bread with hummus
Phebus Torrontes
The Last Drop
Each of these dishes could work with many types of wines, so I wondered if the shop was trying to move these particular selections.
My favorite pairing had to be the Cremant de Bourgogne and mac’n cheese, because I just love the idea of pairing down home Southern roll up your sleeves food with a fancyish French sparkler.
Which one would you try?
